…that the staunch conservation of the rainforest is not a viable way of preserving it. Humanity has lived in them for many years and currently there are approximately 200 million people that live in the jungles around the world. In Latin America, the majority of the inhabitants of the forest live in poverty and without access to the necessary knowledge for a sustainable handling of the ecosystem, while the forest is submitted to a pressure without precedents by the wood market to extract its resources.
We believe that, who live in the forests have a right to live worthily of its resources but, simultaneously, they must have the means to assume the responsibility in its preservation. Actually, through the world there are several important initiatives to protect the rainforest; nevertheless none of these initiatives can be a perfect formula since they address a new topic, in a rapidly changing scenario which is necessarily perfectible. Obviously we do not promote a perfect formula either, but we believe that the best way consists of adopting a long term learning process by all the actors involved, about the use and conservation of the ecosystem and the welfare of its settlers.
We believe that, the same reason that we cannot be indifferent to the devastation and deterioration of the rainforests, since every year it looses or degrades a surface the size of Belgium, we must continue to observe the importance of guaranteeing the development of the forests’ settlers, its exclusion and poverty represents a big loss of culture and different ways to see life.
We believe in the importance of finding a balance between the right to live of the animal and vegetable species and the right to the welfare of the human inhabitants of the forests, by means of the practice of productive sustainable projects guided by the permaculture and fair commerce.
We believe that the measurements must hasten to reduce the climate change - already irreversible - which includes the preservation of the rainforest, since the estimations indicate that the countries have not done enough to reach the goal of CO2 emissions to the atmosphere, which are still above the previously set objectives (14 more %). China is since 2009 the first C02 generating country, and it represents now the 29% of the total, facing the 16 % of the USA, 11 % of the EU, 6 % of India, 5 % of Russia and 4 % of Japan, according to a report published in August, 2012 by the center of Joint investigation of the European Commission.
The Co2 emission average per capita of the European Union is 7,2, while in Latin America it is 2,9. Since our way of producing and consuming keeps on being the main cause of CO2 emission to atmosphere, we believe that the citizens of the developed countries should be interested to participate on the measurements to preserve the rainforests, like one of the possible means of specific actions to preserve the living conditions in the planet.
We believe that is fair, in alliance with the settlers of the forests, the citizens of developed countries contribute with direct efforts to maintain the health of the ecosystem for a mutual and global benefit.
